Religious Education

Intent:

Our aim is to develop thoughtful, philosophical learners who are knowledgeable about a range of world religions and respectful of different beliefs and cultures. Through RE, children explore big questions about meaning, identity, and values, helping them form their own informed and empathetic views.

We want children to:

  • Gain strong knowledge and understanding of major religions

  • Reflect on the meaning and purpose of life

  • Ask thoughtful, reflective questions

  • Understand how beliefs influence lives and communities

  • Develop curiosity, respect, and personal insight

Implementation:

  • We follow the NYCC RE curriculum, progressing from Discovering (EYFS) to Exploring (KS1) and Connecting(KS2).

  • Children study three units per year, each framed by a "Big Question" focused on believing, expressing, or living.

  • Weekly lessons are enhanced by whole-school Festival Days celebrating Diwali, Christmas/Hanukkah, Easter/Passover, and Ramadan/Eid.

  • EYFS focuses on Christianity and introduces other faiths through festivals and community exploration.

  • KS1 explores Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

  • KS2 covers Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism.
