PSHE/RSE

(Personal, social, health education and relationships and sex education)

Intent

At Helmsley, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, happy, and confident. Our PSHE curriculum supports their emotional well-being, self-esteem, and ability to form healthy relationships.

We aim to:

  • Prepare children for life in modern Britain and the wider world

  • Help them build and manage healthy relationships

  • Support their understanding of personal health and well-being

  • Promote British Values across all aspects of school life

Our curriculum is built around three key areas: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World.

Implementation

  • EYFS: PSHE and RSE are delivered through the PSED curriculum, supported by play-based learning and adult guidance.

  • Years 1–6: Weekly PSHE lessons build on previous learning, with age-appropriate content mapped through to Year 6.

  • Relationships and well-being are also reinforced through our core values, assemblies, and wider curriculum.

  • RSE content includes: families, friendships, respectful and online relationships, and staying safe.

  • Key aspects of health are also covered in science and revisited in PSHE.
