Maths

What We Aim to Achieve

Our maths curriculum follows the National Curriculum and focuses on three key areas:

  • Fluency – helping children develop quick recall of number facts and methods through regular practice.

  • Reasoning – encouraging children to explain their thinking and explore patterns and connections.

  • Problem Solving – applying maths to real-life and challenging situations, building resilience and confidence.

We want children not just to “do” maths, but to understand it deeply and enjoy it.

Our Vision

At Helmsley, we want every child to feel confident and capable in maths. Our goal is to give children a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, help them develop strong number skills, and show them how maths connects to the world around them. We believe all children can succeed in maths when given the right support, challenge, and encouragement.

Why It Matters

Maths is more than just numbers – it's a life skill. By making maths meaningful and accessible, we help our children become confident problem-solvers who are ready for the future.
